Creative Dreams Do Come True

Friends – I created this piece in 1997 for the Dallas Society of Visual Communicators. They were hosting a red carpet awards show, and I was asked to design the invitation. It was so much fun to draw this festive couple and an honor to have my artwork featured among many Dallas creatives. I felt an enormous pressure to have it be my best attempt and spent hours drawing the couple until they seemed to sparkle and shine. “Practice makes perfect” prevailed on this piece as I spent many hours re-working the lines to get it “just right”.  I was so pleased with how the couple turned out, and this illustrative style made with a sharpie on marker paper is still one that I use today. In a world of e-cards and digital invitations, I still love pieces of printed paper, and this item will go in the books as one of my favorites. May this piece inspire you to keep practicing your creative endeavors and honing in on your craft. This opportunity was truly a “pinch-me” moment and quite a magical memory. May this piece inspire you to keep practicing your creative endeavors.  You never know when an opportunity will arrive and give you the chance to make your dreams come true. I would love to hear about a time that you lived out a “real-life” creative dream. Hugs! Deana (Dee-na)
